Clinical Case Study: Alondra is a 37-year-old woman with a 6-year-old son. Alondra emigrated alone from San Salvador, El Salvador (capital city) to a Northwest Arkansas (NWA). Alondra was a high school teacher at one of the largest high schools in El Salvador. Gangs in El Salvador had increased the tariffs they charge citizens because they live on their turf. Alondra was no longer able to afford paying the tariffs and the gangs had started to threaten her. Alondra sent her son to live with her mother in the countryside and she plans to send for her son once she saves enough money to help her son migrate to NWA. Alondra is now living with her cousin's family in NWA. Alondra is having a difficult time adjusting to living in Arkansas. She feels lonely, sad because she had to leave her son, has a difficult time concentrating, and is experiencing sleep difficulties. Alondra has a difficult time sharing her emotions because she does not want to burden others. Although Alondra is quite sociable, she struggles to meet people she has things in common with. She is also having a difficult time finding activities she enjoys and experiences some difficulties communicating with people in her community due to language barriers. Alondra has a history of depression and saw a therapist regularly in El Salvador; however, she no longer has access to regular therapy services in NWA. Alondra's father was diagnosed with major depression and alcoholism and died by suicide 6 years ago. Her mother was diagnosed with major depression and generalized anxiety disorder at a young age and is currently taking medication for her depression and anxiety. Alondra's parents were very private people, and they did not want anyone outside of their family microsystem to know about their mental health challenges. They were not very emotionally expressive, and they discouraged emotion expression in their household. When Alondra would feel sad, her parents did not talk to her much in about her feelings, instead, they would ask Alondra to just play outside whenever she felt sad
