Reference no: EM132417743 , Length: word count:3000

Learning Outcomes:

This assignment is designed to test the following learning outcomes:

• Identify appropriate construction methods for framed buildings.
• Comprehend and display graphically, construction methods for framed buildings
• Appreciate environmental, efficiency and fit for purpose considerations of buildings.
• Application of knowledge and skills as a competent member of any property management team when reviewing technical designs and demonstrate well-developed written skills and drawing skills in the production of a report.

ASSIGNMENT TASK

Your task is to produce an element-by-element guide using existing commercial buildings of your choice as case studies. The guide should include a critical evaluation of each element.

Explain the benefits for each and demonstrate using the case studies the reasons why the particular methods may have been chosen. Comparisons should be made between low rise and high rise buildings for each element.

Elements which need to be included are:
• Foundations (including ground floor)
• Structural Frame
• Cladding
• Roof and roof covering
• Upper floor (s)

You should produce a series of annotated drawings / sketches which show how each element of your selected building is constructed and relates to the other elements. The drawings / sketched are to be your own and not downloaded from the internet.

Make suggestions for improvement of your chosen building pertaining to the elements considered in line with the following themes.
• Energy Conservation • Layout
• Sustainable Materials • Accessibility
• Modern Methods of Construction

Further requirements:
• As part of your research for this assignment, you should attend a minimum of TWO technical CPD events relevant to this assignment. Evidence of attendance, together with a critical evaluation of the events, should be put in an appendix.
• You are encouraged to use minimum text and more illustrations through drawings and tables.
• You will be required to give a ten minutes presentation for formative feedback in TW12.
