Bibliography Assignment Overview

After selecting a research topic for the research project, complete the annotated bibliography. Your annotated bibliography should consist of minimum five sources. At least three of these sources should be academic, peer-reviewed sources from the University databases. The other two can be credible web sources.

An annotation is a summary and/or evaluation.

Therefore, an annotated bibliography includes a summary and/or evaluation of each of the source.

(i) Document Sources: Document sources in APA style (worth 25 points). The following link provides more information on how to document sources in APA style:

(ii) Summarize:What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine how detailed your summary is.

The annotations for the academic sources should do, at the very least, these three things: (Worth 30 points)

1) Identify the central argument of the source

2) Identify the main type of evidence within the source and explain how it is used to support the central claim

3) Identify and explain one opposing view that the source addresses or one significant way in which the argument of the source is limited or qualified.

The annotations for the non-academic source must explain the credibility of the source.

(iii) Assess: After summarizing a source, assess the source. Is it a useful source? How does it compare with other sources in your bibliography? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? What is the goal of this source? (Worth 20 points)

(iv) Reflect:Once you've summarized and assessed a source, you need to ask how it fits into your research. Was this source helpful to you? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source in your research project? Has it changed how you think about your topic? (Worth 20 points)

The bibliography should start with a brief description of the topic that the student is researching. (Worth 5 points)
