1.1 Identify the different forms of communication used in a helping relationship.

1.2 Identify the communication skills used in a helping relationship. Think about what you consider to be the qualities of a good listener? 

1.3 Outline how each skill might be used.

2.5 Identify and describe a range of barriers to communication, including physical, environmental, psychological, social and cultural factors which can interfere with or distort communication.

2.6 Describe ways to overcome barriers to communication.

1.1 Identify and explain your own values and beliefs.

Refer to exercises you have been involved in during class, group discussion and any learning away from college.

1.2 Outline how these values and beliefs could have an effect on helping relationships.

Think about the role of helper and how your own beliefs may impact on any helping relationships. Use examples.

1.3 Identify and describe your own motivation for helping others.

Think about your reasons for being on the course. What is it about you that motivates you to want to help others?
