Note: You must choose TWO essay titles from the list below, and create essay plans to answer them during the class session:
1. Identify and explain the problems of war and terrorism in today's world and propose ways in which they can be reduced, using some sociological or psychological theory.
2. Discuss the view that the use of social media and digital technology has both positive and negative effects on personal relationship quality.
3. With examples and empirical evidence examine the benefits and costs of religion in everyday life.
4. Explain the causes and consequences of child sexual abuse, drawing on psychological theory and evidence.
Your tutor will guide you in the weeks ahead to create an individual essay plan and practice for the assignment. Please refer to the Assignment 2 Brief for more information.

1. Explain the contribution of psychological and sociological theories, as well as understanding of the empirical evidence that underpins them, towards understanding specific aspects of human life in contemporary society.
2. Compare and contrast two psychological or sociological perspectives in relation to themes covered in the lecture programme. Essay Plan
Your essay plan must have a clear structure with an introduction, a main body of the essay, containing the main argument, and a conclusion. Headings are not necessary.
The introduction should contain:
1. Conceptual understanding: Clear and coherent definition of the phenomenon. This can come from one source or contain elements from several sources.
2. Rationale: An explanation of why the issue at the centre of the chosen title is important and worth exploring in the essay. Evidence should be provided to support claims where appropriate.
3. Aim: This should address directly the question implied in the title chosen. There should be a brief indication of how this will be tackled.
The main body would contain:
4. Ideas directly related to the chosen title reflecting good understanding of relevant theory and research evidence.
5. These should follow a logical sequence that develops an argument directly related to the essay title.
6. There should also be a conclusion that summarises the main argument of the essay and derives a position. The latter can also have an evaluative/critical component about the knowledge acquired or the essay itself.
Other criteria include:
7. Writing style: Correctgrammar, spelling and punctuation, as well as clarity.
8. Citations(in text): Well managed citations to sources if any authors/theories were mentioned.
