This folio assignment is designed as the first stage of a country-based case study of educational reform or change. It will involve the preparation and delivery of an oral presentation (including 6 PowerPoint slides), supported by a written précis and commentary about one educational change or reform in a country of your choice.

The focus is on the ways in which this educational change or reform is shaped by globalisation (global forces) and national policies and imperatives, in addition to their cross/intercultural significance. This issue around educational change can refer to education policy reforms; for instance, those involving changes to curriculum or pedagogy or teacher education and professional development. Some examples of recent educational changes include: the introduction of standards-based testing, school league tables, privatisation of education, global English, gender equity and education for marginalised groups, internationalisation of education, transnational education programs, quality assurance, and inclusive education.

The preparation of the presentation will involve:

1. background research and gathering information for your country case study (e.g. population demography, data about ethno-religious groups and linguistic groups, education indicators). This information can be obtained from the United Nations data or World Bank

2. You will next identify and examine the educational change or reform that you are interested in, based on relevant articles from refereed academic journals (one of which focuses on the same or similar educational change or reform in other country other than your country case study).***very important

3. In engaging with these journal articles, you will then briefly identify how globalisation (global forces) and national politics (and imperatives) are played out in relation to the educational change/policy you are interested in.

This assessment task should be viewed and approached as a building block that provides the focus and establishes the framework for your third assessment task.

Part 1: Presentation

Your presentation should comprise
• 6 power point slides (excluding the front/title page and reference list)
• Audioscript (format attached)
Your oral presentation should cover the following points:
• Clear identification of the country-based case study of educational change/reform
• Clear outline of background of country based-case study (e.g. population demography, data about ethno-religious groups and linguistic groups, education indicators)
• Outline of relevant core concepts (e.g.globalisation, national policies, cross/intercultural aspects) in relation to your case study
• Identification of referred academic articles in relation to your case study of educational change/reform (one of which focuses on the same/similar education change/reform in another country other than your country case study). These articles should engage with the concepts of globalisation, national policies and/or cross/intercultural aspects.
• Brief discussion of how globalisation/global forces and national politics and imperatives are played out in relation to the educational change/reform discussed

Part 2: Precis (1000 words)
Your precis or written summary of your presentation should be a maximum of 2 pages and should outline the points outlined in your oral presentation. You could use the following subheadings
• Your name and topic of your presentation (i.e. your country-based case study of educational change/reform)
• Background information of country based-case study (eg population demography, data about ethno-religious groups and lingusitic groups, education indicators)
