Students are to conduct a research assignment. The objective is to research, discover, and present a contemporary topic of interest in the Strategic Management of Information Technology (IT) has improved and sustained the competitive positioning of a company.
Structure of the report (Suggested)
1. Title page, dated, with group members
2. Acknowledgements
3. Table of contents
4. Introduction Describe the purpose of the report. - Indicate why the particular topic was chosen. - Analyze the company, the industry, and the operations observed (where applicable) - Provide brief information about the topic selected - A conceptual flow chart of the main operations of the firm (if you have selected a company) is recommended.
5. Business Strategy: Critical competitive factors and priorities
6. Analysis of a specific process, department, or function of your choice. Analyze the main processes and flows. You may follow a specific example by tracing the production of one particular product item or a particular task performed by a group/ function within the company (if you have selected a company) Describe the basic tools and equipment used: hardware, software, networks, data; use diagrams, photos, where appropriate. Identify and examine critical procedures, people and essential skills.
7. Recommendations: This section of the paper is critical. It should include recommendations/ observations. - Identify special problems with quality, employees, suppliers, distributors, capacity, bottlenecks, flows, waste observed, currency of the technology, adequacy of management systems, etc. Recommend specific solutions or propose clear paths for improvement.
8. Conclusion. Provide a summary and highlight what you have learned.
