Task Description: Case Studies Assignment
In the first piece of assessment you wrote about how you and or your family have received and experienced Australian welfare. This assignment moves to consider the policy context for individuals and families that you may engage with as workers. The aim of this assignment is to have you consider the client's circumstances and how policies and programs interacts with their lives.
Your task:
1. Watch the film, The Girls Most Likely. It is part of a series, Plumpton High Babies. The film is available online in the UQ library.
2. Write an essay on the impact of welfare policies and programs focusing on the including the following areas:
a. Provide an overview and understanding of the area the young women live in. Research the socio-economic issues this areas faces, and how disadvantage is experienced by residents.
b. A discussion of the policies and programs that are supporting the young women and their families.
c. A discussion of the policies and programs that currently make life and school difficult for the young women and their families.
d. Investigate programs operating in Australia that could assist the young women and their families. In your discussion link aspects of the program to areas of disadvantage that could potentially be addressed.
e. Identify and discuss the range of policies and programs surrounding the young women and their families that need to interact well for the young women.
3. Use an essay format with an introduction and conclusion.
4. Please note:
a. Consideration of Australian policies are appropriate in addressing the questions in this assignment. Whilst this case study in set in New South Wales is fine to draw on policies and programs across Australia.
b. The terms policies and programs are commonly used interchangeably in the media, and on websites, and in academic papers. This essay is not asking you to define policies and programs as concepts, or to include legislation.
Word Limit: 1200 words. A word count within +/- 10% of the word limit is acceptable. A word count outside of 10% is penalised through a reduction of 10% of the total mark available for the assessment piece. Citations within the text are included in the word count; the
Reference List is not included in the word count. You are required to meet the prescribed word limit with a range of +/- 10%.
