Purpose: Identify and discuss current issues related health.
Overview:
Students will choose one health condition that holds personal relevance or interest and create a presentation (infographic, brochure, voice over PowerPoint, video presentation, podcast etc.). If choosing a presentation format, time must not exceed 10 minutes. If submitting a paper, aim for approximately 1,500-2,000 words (not including references).
To complete your submission, the following criteria must be included:
• Overview of the condition
• Cause or origin of the condition
• Magnitude of the problem- What is the prevalence of the condition, disease or risk factor.
• Describe the consequences of the condition and who is at risk.
• Examine how modifiable risk factors influence this condition. Focus should be on primary prevention measures. List and describe a minimum of three lifestyle strategies that support prevention of this condition.
• Provide the audience with an idea of how much each intervention reduces the risk of the condition, which would you prioritize if you had to choose just one? Is there a dose-response relationship?
• Present Evidence of the relationship - you must use peer-reviewed sources and include them in your references. You should try to effectively synthesize this information, while still discussing the details of some key students that informed your conclusion.
• Speak to why you choose this condition. Discuss the relevance to your personal life.
Questions to ask yourself while preparing your assignment:
• Have you looked carefully at the grading rubric to understand the expectations?
• Are all of the required topics of the presentation present?
• Are relevant, current, peer-reviewed studies included?
• If you have chosen a verbal, or visual presentation, have you attached your reference list?
• Was adequate evidence provided? Have you synthesized it for your audience?
