In hopes of furthering the new employee's training, you have decided to put together a networking group composed of administrative and clerical personnel from the three hospitals in your area. This group will meet on a quarterly basis to discuss various topics relating to health care statistics. The first meeting is in three weeks, and you want your employees to be prepared to discuss a topic at the meeting. You have put together a list of various statistic rates your employees commonly view and analyze. Choose one of the following topics for this assignment:
Hospital Infection Rate
Postoperative Infection Rate
Cesarean-Section Rate
Hospital Death Rate (including gross death rate & net death rate)
Fetal Death Rate
For the chosen topic, prepare a handout/paper to give to your employees to review before the quarterly meeting. Your handout should include sufficient information to assist your employees in participating in the topic discussion at the quarterly meeting. Therefore, be sure to include the following information in your handout/paper:
Identify and define the topic of choice
Conduct research to include relevant information on the topic (such as the purpose and importance of the hospital knowing this specific rate, how the information is used, etc.)
Include an illustration or explanation of how the rate is calculated (provide an example of a rate calculation for your topic)
Provide information from an outside source (such as a journal article, newspaper article, accreditation agency report, etc.) that discusses this topic in a real-life setting/situation. Include relevant information from this source in your handout to help add substance to the discussion at the quarterly meeting. For example, if Cesarean-Section Rate was the chosen topic, you could research the library or other sources to find an article discussing a hospital or region's high Cesarean-Section Rate and the implications or effect of that high rate.
