Seek out a nurse who practices in a leadership/manager role within a practice area that is of interest to the student. The interviewee should be in a management role e.g. Unit Manager, Unit Supervisor, Director of Nursing, etc. The requirements of the assignment are as follows:

Identify and contact a nursing leader (manager, supervisor, department head, etc.) who works within an area that you are interested in practicing following graduation. The only requirement is that this individual be a baccalaureate prepared registered nurse holding a management position.
Schedule a window of time to conduct a phone interview, in person interview or complete via email.
Prior to meeting with your nursing leader, create a list of a minimum 15 questions to ask. These can be a mixture of business, profession, or personal questions relating to the nurse and his/her current role while keeping the majority towards management/leadership related. Be creative! Think about your most burning questions as you enter practice in just a few short weeks and what information you would like to know before you begin a job search. It may also be pertinent to include questions about what managers look for in new hires and what constitutes an outstanding candidate.
