Case: Chyra grew up in foster care, and now, as a social worker for a foster care agency, she is determined to change state policies in ways that will better the lives and opportunities of those who are aging out of foster care. In particular, she wants to see an expansion of services that will help those who are aging out get job training or higher education, get housing and help with other basics, and even find mentors who will help them transition to independent adulthood. However, like many young social workers who have devoted their efforts to education, licensure, and getting stablished in their careers, she has yet to be active in policy practice, and she wonders how to start.
