Assignment
Part 1: Teams and Decisions
Think back on a significant team activity outside of this class that you were personally involved in. It could be a student team from one of your other courses, a work team from a recent or current position, on any team.
Did this team involve any biases? It must have as every team does.
Question 1a: Individual Decision Making and Perceptual Biases (10 points, 200 words max) Now discuss one individual decision making bias in one of your team members or yourself. How would a better understanding of this bias have contributed to the team's/individuals performance?
Question 1b: Team Decision Making issue (10 points, 200 words max) Now discuss one team bias or issue from PB Technology or Everest. in one of your team members or yourself. How would a better understanding of this bias have contributed to the team's/individuals performance?
Part 2: Leader Analysis.
Identify a leader in the popular press or history. It may be a CEO, business leader, political leader, or anyone. Please choose someone different than we have discussed in class, so do NOT choose anyone from the Erik Peterson cases, Jack Welch, Roberto Goizueta, Steve Jobs, or Bill Gates. I would like you to do some research and find an article that describes this leader (so do not chose someone from your personal history). The article should be published in 2020-2024. Please include the cite or link in your exam.
Question 2a: (10 points, 200 words max)
What type of leader is your choice (commanding, logical, inspirational, or supportive) and why do you believe this? Please use class concepts to support your view.
Question 2b: (10 points, 300 words max)
Analyse the effectiveness of your leader using concepts from the class. Were they effective? Why or why not? What could they have done to be more effective? You may use any of the leadership concepts from class to discuss this but make sure you also pay particular attention to the leadership styles framework we discussed in class.
Question 2c: (10 points, 300 words max)
Is there a different leadership style (from the 4 discussed in class) that more accurately describes your chosen leader? If not, what would be a 5th leadership style that is particularly important (feel free to create your own
term for this 5th style). Using frameworks and concepts developed in class, what are the characteristics of this style and under what conditions would this style be effective or ineffective. Who would be an example of this style and why (preferably an example with published evidence)?
Part 3: Negotiations
Negotiations are around us everywhere. Identify an example of a business or political negotiation from sometime within the period of 2020-2024 that speaks to issues discussed in the "Negotiation" portion of the class. The negotiation you choose should be sourced from the popular or business press. Please be sure to cite your sources.
Question 3a: Negotiation Analysis (10 points, 300 words max)
Please analyse the identified negotiation using concepts from the class, paying particular attention to concepts from the section of class on Negotiations. What went right or wrong? What should the protagonists have done differently?

Organizations are attempting to transform themselves every day. Identify an example of an organization attempting to transform itself from sometime within the period of 2020-2024 that speaks to issues discussed in the "Leading Organizational Change" portion of the class. The organization you choose should be sourced from the popular or business press. Please be sure to cite your sources.
Question 4a: Change Management Analysis (15 points, 300 words max)
Please analyse the identified change effort using concepts from the class, paying particular attention to lessons on structural change from the Change Management simulation. How do the 2 by 2 frameworks discussed in the change management class help explain what went right or wrong? What should they have done differently?
Question 4b: Different Change Lever (10 points, 300 words max)
In the Change management simulation we considered 18 different change levers. In the real world there are many other change levers. Identify a different change lever than the ones used in the change management simulation. How does your new change lever fit into the framework we discussed in class and how would it effectively and ineffectively be used? Please be specific.
Question 4c: Adaptive Leadership (10 points, 400 words max). Based on the example you have identified and your answers to 4a & 4b
Would Adaptive Leadership been an effective approach in this situation? Why or why not?
How could an Adaptive leadership approach been used here? Please be specific.
Please base your comments on insights from the discussion of the Patient Zero simulation, but you may pull in concepts to support your answer from any of the classes.
