This paper is designed to help acquaint you with some of the major archaeological sites around the world. This assignment will require you to identify academic sources of information pertinent to your site, and evaluate what we know or can know about the site in light of the material we have learned over the course.

Directions:

Go to the UNESCO world heritage site list and choose an archaeological site that interests you.

Your site exploration paper shouldpresent the site, tell me about what we know about the people who lived in the site and explain how we know it.

You are expected to draw on course material to formulate your argument. You may also consider the following questions:
Where is the site?

What is the cultural history of the site? What is the excavation history of the site? Why is it on the heritage list? Is the site in danger, and if so, what are the dangers?

What can the site tell us about the people that occupied it? What can we learn about modern humanity from the site?

How does this site compare to other sites we have talked about in class?
