Assignment:
And the Region must be either Toronto or Missisagua in Ontario, Canada.
Identify a specific urban neighborhood in the Greater Toronto Area.
You will need to visit the neighborhood in person and analyze the urban processes evident there. The neighborhood should be large enough to incorporate a diverse range of land use (i.e., residential, retail, public amenities, etc.),
Explain and give a sense of where the neighborhood is and what the parameters will be for your final paper.
Define how you understand place, and reflect on your neighborhood as a particular place. You should draw on one reading from the course syllabus when defining place: either the Massey (2008) reading from Week 6 or the Adams reading from Week 2. Questions to consider include, but are not limited to: what global/regional/local connections have shaped the place? Is there a particular form of collective memory associated with the place? Is there a specific sense of place associated with the neighborhood?
You should rationalize your choice of neighborhood. Given your discussion of the kind of place the neighborhood is, why is this an important neighborhood for your study? What do you expect to find during your field visit?
