Question: Take what you have learned about the Socratic Method and practice it!
When you are in a conversation with a friend or family member, identify a specific word or term that needs to be defined further. Begin asking questions to clarify the meaning or intent. Keep this up as long as you can and record what happens in a short essay.
You are the examiner. You are NOT to state your opinion or argue with the other person. You are only to ask leading questions.
You must first identify a single word or term to explore. Do NOT try to discuss full statements. Look for terms within the statements that you can explore further. Consider the accepted virtues of Greek society: Justice, Temperance, Courage, Piety, Wisdom. Consider common vague terms used in everyday conversations like good, bad, pretty, ugly, happy, sad, clean, dirty, smart, dumb and the like.
Stay focused on that term
The short essay should have the term discussed, the situation in which it came up, and a brief explanation of the conversation (you can write it as a dialog if you would like). You may also want to add your thoughts about the experience.
Rely on what you learned from the readings . . . Socrates was the master questioner!
Begin this process early, as it might take you a few tries to feel comfortable asking questions.
