Students will be expected to post their first initial discussion board posting by Friday of each week.
Discussion posts will be graded and late submissions will be assigned a late penalty in accordance with the late penalty policy found in the syllabus. NOTE: All submission posting times are based on midnight Central Time.
Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400-600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.
• Consider the characterization of the private sector, including nonpublic sector entities that are not economic at their core (e.g., private nonprofit).
o Should these organizations be included in exploring the roles and responsibilities of the private sector in homeland security? Fully explain your answer.
• Identify a real-world organization. Explain briefly its mission and organizational profile.
o What are the organization's values, achievements, and goals? Explain.
o How has the organization affected the environment through its business operations? Explain.
o List and describe what factors the organization's leadership would likely consider significant for its internal security.
• Detail the significant contributions that this entity could or should make in helping its community and the nation be resilient and more secure.
o What challenges would this group face in attempting to make these contributions?
• What motivations might terrorists have to target private-sector entities?
o Give an example of an organization that you would consider vulnerable and why you consider this to be the case.
