Homework: Healthcare System and Policy Annotated Bibliography

For this homework, you will develop an Annotated Bibliography on the topic of social justice for a Vulnerable/Special Population and a related Health Care Policy.

Step I: Review these Resources for this homework:

1. SUNY Empire Library

2. Purdue Writing Lab Annotated Bibliographies

3. Sample of Annotated Bibliography: Purdue Owl APA Annotated Bibliography

4. Conduct a literature search. Choose two current articles that discusses the major health needs or challenges of a vulnerable population (i.e racial/ethnic minorities, uninsured women/children, individuals living in rural areas, are homeless, mentally ill, chronically ill/disabled individuals, or patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS).

5. The articles must have been published within the last five years.

6. The articles must be from peer reviewed professional health-related journals.

7. Identify a current health care policy (recently introduced or passed) that impacts social justice for the vulnerable population under discussion.

Step II: Create an annotated bibliography on each of the two articles you selected.

1. Elements of an Annotated Bibliography:

a. An Introduction to the problem/issue.

i. Discuss the vulnerable population of choice.
ii. Identify the legislative policy that was designed to impact social justice for the vulnerable population (reference policy appropriately).

b. Write the Reference of the first article written in APA format.

c. A Summary of the article analyzing information related to the vulnerable population of choice (1-2 paragraphs).

i. Include a short analysis of the source.

2. How to evaluate/analyze a source can be found at this link.

3. Repeat the Reference and Summary for the second article

4. A Conclusion paragraph which summarizes which summarizes your key points.

Step III: Submit an initial discussion post which includes:

1. Your topic listed in the title of the post.

2. A brief introduction to your topic, and why you are interested in this topic.

3. Annotated bibliographies of the 2 chosen articles written in the Annotated Bibliography format.

Step IV: Discuss with your peers how the nursing profession's responsibilities related to advocacy for social justice could influence the future of health care related to the vulnerable population and legislation under discussion.
