Discussion:

Can you please help me to identify a company that uses vertical integration at some level. This could be as complicated as a large corporation that has acquired a supplier to thereby control supply or cost of procurement, like Delta Airlines did with buying an oil refinery (backwards integration), or as simple as a local farmer that now sells their produce or meats direct to customers over a website (forward integration). Once you identify the firm and the way they are vertically integrating, offer some critical analysis regarding the costs and benefits of this vis-a-vie normal transactions with a supplier or sales agent. Overall, does their efforts related to structuring and managing this integration process make sense for the business and why?
