Any organization (for-profit or not-for-profit) are governed by the same managerial dynamics. The only difference is what happens with the profit at the end of the year. While the for-profit organization will return dividends to owners or investors, the not-for-profit model uses that surplus to expand the central mission.

One misconception in management is that not-for-profit should not seek to increase revenue as the for-profit organization. However, revenue = profit is fundamental to the sustainability of any organization.
