A kinase is an enzyme that catalyzes a chemical reaction in which a phosphate group is transferred from ATP to a given molecule. In glycolysis, the enzyme phosphofructokinase catalyzes the conversation of 6-phosphofructose into 1,6-bisphosphofructose (seen below):
