Problem: A wide flange section has the idealized residual stress distribution shown below. Find the relationship (an equation) between the maximum compressive residual stress, frc, and the maximum tensile residual stress, frt, in terms of the dimensions b, tf, h, and tw of the cross section. Assume that the residual stresses are constant through the thickness of the flange and the web.
