• submit a completed cover sheet with your work
• avoid sharing your answers with other students.
Task - Project
Scenario:
You have recently graduated as an IT support technician, and you have recently been hired by a large enterprise organisation. The organisation implements a traditional client-server network using Windows Server 2016 for managing the domain using Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP services (using IPv4 scope). Employees use Windows 10 desktops to undertake their work duties by accessing server resources once they have been authorised and authenticated.
It is expected that you will undertake the following maintenance duties and responsibilities as per the following Maintenance procedure task list after your orientation:

As part of your orientation and training in your new job, the Network Administrator wants to gain an understanding of your current skillset and knowledge. They have devised a number of tests, so they can gain knowledge as to whether you are able to undertake the required duties as per the Maintenance procedure or whether further training is required before you undertake these duties.
Your trainer/assessor will provide following tools and equipment's to complete all the activities.
• Server
• LAN (Local Area Network)
• A live network
• Security testing tools and cables
• Router and switches
• Windows 10 system
Activity 1: (Command-line tools)
The Network Administrator wants to use a range of command-line tools in a Windows environment to ensure that you can use them correctly. This includes the ping, ipconfig, and netstat commands. You will be expected to use these tools as part of your troubleshooting duties after the orientation phase has been completed.
The assessor will play the role of the Network Administrator for this task and will supply any further details required to undertake the tests such as the server IP address of the network. You are to undertake the following using textual and numerical data in a format specific to requirements.
For this task you are to open Command Prompt or PowerShell in a Windows 10 device connected to a network and then complete the following tasks:
a) Execute the command to verify localhost
b) Execute the command to verify connection to server
c) Execute the command to gather network statistics based on protocol
d) Execute the command to gather TCP/IP network configurations for all adapters
e) Execute the command to release the devices IP address
f) Execute the command to renew the devices IP address
Activity 2:
Note: This activity is in continuation of the previous activity
The Network Administrator has replicated a support request for a user that is having difficulty connecting to the network. They have asked you to test whether there is an issue with the Ethernet cable that is connected to the Network Interface Card (NIC) in the device to rule this out as the connectivity issue. The purpose of this test is to ensure that you can use a hardware tool correctly and to required safety standards. This will be one of your expected duties after the orientation phase has been completed.
The assessor will play the role of the Network Administrator for this task.
For this task you need to:
1. Identify which hardware tool you will use for this task.
2. Use the tool you have identified to correctly test the Ethernet cable ensuring that you follow work health and safety requirements during its usage.
3. Analyse the test results to determine whether the cable has any issues.
Activity 3:
The Network Administrator has replicated a support request for a user that is having some difficulties with the motherboard in their device. They have asked you to test the electrical circuitry of the motherboard using a hardware tool to ensure that the motherboard has no electrical issues. The purpose of this test is to ensure that you can use a hardware tool correctly and to required safety standards. This will be one of your expected duties after the orientation phase has been completed.
For this task you need to:
1. Identify which hardware tool you will use for this task.
2. Use the tool you have identified to correctly test the motherboard ensuring that you follow work health and safety requirements during its usage.
3. Analyse the test results to determine whether the motherboard has any electrical issues.
Activity 4: (Network monitoring)
The Network Administrator has asked you to use a network monitoring on the live network to determine that you can use the tool correctly to determine possible vulnerabilities and security issues with the network, and that you can analysis the monitoring results. This will be one of your expected duties after the orientation phase has been completed.
The assessor will play the role of the Network Administrator for this task and will specify what networking monitoring tool you will use for this task.
For this task you need to:
1. Identify and access the network monitoring tool that the Network Administrator wants you to use.
2. Specify to the Network Administrator orally the main functions of the tool so they know that you understand its main functions.
3. Undertake monitoring tasks using the Network Monitoring software.
4. Analyse the result to determine possible vulnerabilities for the network. If any vulnerabilities are identified, specify to the assessor orally how you could go about isolating or resolving the security issue.
Activity 5: (Network penetration test)
1. Identify and access the network penetration tool that the Network Administrator wants you to use.
2. Specify to the Network Administrator orally the main functions of the tool so they know that you understand its main functions.
3. Undertake a penetration test using the software.
4. Analyse the result to determine possible vulnerabilities for the network. If any vulnerabilities are identified, specify to the assessor orally how you could go about isolating or resolving the security issue.
