I ran an experiment in Lab.  Placed a can of Tuna in a hot bath and a thermometer inside the can and one outside to measure temperatures inside the can and outside of it, respectively.  In addition, also had a thermometer about 8in away from the Tuna can to measure the hot water bath temperature.  I measured the temperature in intervals of minutes for 90 minutes.  The temperatures went from 0 - 97 degrees after the 1 1/2 hr.  The temps varied, in most instances, it raised, but at a few instances, it seemed to decrease some degrees.  The question I was asked was, is the system a Transient Heat Transfer or Steady State?  How can I tell?
