The hospital system I work for collaborated with Garden State Urban Farms, a Food Distribution Center that grows hydroponic crops, to bring nutrition/wellness education and access to healthy foods to the area. This area is considered an inner-city area, with social and economic issues. The hospital owns and operates a hydroponic greenhouse that provides fresh produce to the local community. The greenhouse provides fresh, locally grown produce to the community, promoting healthier eating habits and Healthy Living. The greenhouse also serves as an educational center where people can learn about sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and the importance of eating fresh produce. This can lead to increased awareness and knowledge about these topics, influencing behaviors and attitudes towards food and the environment. There is also an Environmental, Economic and social impact to this. Hydroponic farming uses significantly less water than traditional farming methods, which can help conserve water resources. The greenhouse provides job opportunities for local residents, contributing to the local economy. It also helps to reduce food costs for individuals who may not otherwise have access to fresh produce. And By providing a community space and promoting healthy living, the greenhouse can help to foster.
