Case Study: Enteral Feedings Introduction: Mrs. Johnson, a 65-year-old woman, was admitted to the medical-surgical unit with a diagnosis of severe dysphagia secondary to a recent stroke. As fundamentals nursing students, the focus of this case study is on the enteral feeding and nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion process for Mrs. Johnson. Patient Background: Mrs. Johnson has a medical history of hypertension and hyperlipidemia. She recently experienced a left-sided ischemic stroke that resulted in difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). The healthcare team decided that enteral feeding via a nasogastric tube would be the most suitable approach to ensure Mrs. Johnson receives adequate nutrition and hydration while recovering from her stroke.
