Betty is a cleaning custodian who has worked at XBAS company for 9 years. She is responsible for dusting furniture, washing window s, mopping floors and performing other general cleaning duties and has successfully passed all her performance appraisal. Her new manager Brad has been drafting new description s for all employees at XBAS company. Effective immediately, all new and current cleaning custodians must be able to effectively use Microsoft Office software.
Betty is not able to meet this standard. She has never had to use Microsoft Office and doesn't have any computer at home either. There seems to be nothing in her duties which require someone to have to use Microsoft Office.
Brad told her that it is impossible to accommodate her.
However the company had alternative work at lower pay. Betty was moved to the laundry room where she would be responsible for washing clothes and folding washed clothes.
A couple of weeks after Betty began in the laundry department, she noticed Ed that her co workers Henry was making a lot of racially based jokes. Betty was offended and told him to stop . Henry told her, " why do u care what I do, it's not like I m making fun of u, white woman.
