You are the director of human resources at a large medical practice. An employee who worked as a physician's assistant for your company was fired because he had made several mistakes while on the job. On three occasions he gave patients the wrong medication. One patient became critically ill because of his mistake and was hospitalized. The employee was under a lot of stress at the time (he was going through a difficult divorce) and even though he was fired, his boss felt bad about the situation. The physician's assistant was also hardworking and well-liked by the staff and patients alike. He has applied for another job and the potential employer has contacted your medical practice and asked for a reference. The director of your medical practice would like to give a positive reference and help the physician's assistant get another job. The director asks for your advice. What should the director do?
