Homework: Current Events Paper

Your goal is to find a newsworthy management or business event and write exactly how this news relates to our course.

Do the following to complete the homework.

Find one news article (see "Possible Sources" list on the last page of this document). An acceptable news article:

1. Has direct relevance to specific terms/concepts in our course.
2. Was published on 9/1/21 or later (so not before 9/1/21).
3. Can be a written article, podcast/radio story, video, or other relevant media. You must be able to provide a link to the content

Not acceptable:

Articles, press announcements, news releases, etc. from a company web site.

Educational sites (Edutopia, Coursera, Kahn Academy, etc.)- Needs to be the media reporting on an event.

Write the paper.

Question I. Explain why you chose the article, What is it that interested you (the topic, the company, etc.)? Don't just say, "I chose this article because it talks about a lot of topics from class." I'm interested in what drew you to the article.

Question II. How did you go about finding it? Select 4 to 6 key words or topics from our course to relate to the article?

Question III. Briefly define all key words. If you get your definitions from somewhere other than the class (e. g. the textbook and lecture slides) you need to cite your source?

Question IV. Summarize the article in your own words and in your summary explain exactly how your article demonstrates the key words or topics you defined. As an example, if one of your terms is "decision making" then you should note how the article related to decision making (L.e. "The article mentioned XYZ Inc. had made a fateful decision by eliminated and downsizing its workforce."). See the rubric in D2L attached to the homework.

Question V. Communicate your personal thoughts on the article. (i.e., Do you agree with it? Do you think it made valid arguments/points? Did it make you realize/understand something you hadn't before? etc.

Question VI. Review your draft for organization, grammar and connection to the course.
