Case Study: You have just been appointed CEO of a new commerce platform company called "Bestinclass.com" that allows entrepreneurs to set up their own online store. Your team has developed new online technology that will simplify online sales for businesses and customers resulting in faster delivery timelines. The key objective is to take 2% market share away from your main competitor, Shopify by the end of Q1, 2023.
To launch this new platform, your teams are very interdependent, they rely on each other to get their work done. This often leads to intergroup conflict because of conflicting organizational priorities. Your organization is comprised of 100 employees who work in software development, technology support, sales, marketing, administration, human resources and financial operations.
The previous CEO was not very collaborative and your employees were hesitant to share new ideas or communicate any problems they were facing. You suspect that your team is filtering information when they communicate with you because you only receive positive feedback about the pending launch of this ground breaking project. From your leadership experience, you know that a project of such a large magnitude (a $3M project), would surely have some group challenges. You have heard through the "grapevine" that your employees think that they should delay the launch of the technology for at least a month because it has not been thoroughly tested due to work overload, and that he Finance team is not supportive of the cost investment, but they are hesitant to tell you because they are not sure how you will react.
Your assignment is to create an inspiring PowerPoint presentation that introduces you to your employees. It should reflect your vision and it must include a reference to another organization whose values you align with and why. You can reference a leader or an organization that has been referenced in your textbook or any other organization/leader of your preference.
Your presentation should include key insights into your leadership style and your decision making process. Be mindful of the insights you would like your employees to come away with after reviewing your presentation.
Questions: Your presentation should be a maximum of 10 slides, including the cover page and references. Here are the topics you should cover:
1. Your leadership style and philosophy and insight into how you would expect your teams to work together to achieve great results.
2. Expectations that you have of employees - communication style, team development, relationship building, conflict management and your approach to decision making
3. The organizational culture you hope to build with employees and why (Chapter 14). Please include a reference to an organization and/or a leader whose values resonate with you and highlight which values you would like to replicate and introduce within your organization and why.
4. The ethical standards by which you would like everyone to abide.
Please be sure to include all four sections above and integrate learnings from the textbook, class slides, online learning modules and other sources. This assignment is worth 20% and should be posted on Blackboard by 11:59PM EST on December 9th, 2022. A deduction of 2 points will be applied for each day posted after the due date.
