Assignment: TASK: You will reflect on certain important moments from your life that have significance in terms of their impact on who you are and/or who will become. You will choose THREE events from your life to focus on.
You will describe these events (narrate) them for your reader as if you are telling your story to them. You will write in the 1st person (using "I").
The key to being successful with this assignment is to think about how you will write about the events in your life in a way that will capture the reader's attention and focus. You want your reader to be interested and engaged.
The way you will do this:
-focus on narrating key moments in your life that have had a big or fairly large impact on you and highlight/explain to the reader WHY they are significant. What did you learn from the experience? How did it affect you as a person? What did it make you realize?
-in your description of the key moments in your life, work on choosing interesting and strong vocabulary (use a thesaurus to help!). Choose words that will help the reader imagine/visualize what you are describing.
-speak directly to your reader to engage (interest) them. You can do this by posing questions at times. Allow your reader to have an emotional response to your writing and/or to stimulate them intellectually (by getting them to think).
-write mainly in the *past tense* as you are describing events from your past
-write in chronological order (describe the events from the oldest to the most recent)
