Assignment: After 6 years working in the payroll department, you were recently promoted to the role of Payroll Manager. You manage a team of 4 people whose experience ranges from 18 months to 12 years. As the new manager you are faced with many challenges including dealing with the transition from colleague to boss, the development of a new team, the implementation of new procedures as well as the recruitment of one additional staff member. There are a number of issues that the Head of Finance would like you to address. They include problems with communication within your team and the lack of motivation among some members of the team. A blame culture is developing, and some cliques are being formed. Most people are unsure of their role and key objectives. Your boss is concerned that if these problems aren't dealt with soon the performance of the team will suffer.
