Assignment - Equitable Instruction Presentation
Description - Establishing student expectations and classroom routines helps to foster respect, create value in diversity, optimize time for instruction, and operate efficiently. Motivational and instructional strategies should be implemented early in the year to ensure students have established routines and procedures. These may differ from year to year depending on current students' interests, cultural differences, and accommodations.
Choose a grade level band (inclusive setting: K-3, 4-6, 7-8, or 9-12) and create a 10-15 slide digital presentation for Parent Night that demonstrates how you will introduce expectations, routines, and classroom climate to your inclusive students. Your presentation should include, but not limited to, the following:
An introduction of yourself and the goals for a positive classroom learning environment.
A discussion of the routines, procedures, and expectations for the class.
How the students' strengths, interests, differences, and/or needs will be addressed using assistive technology, modifications, and accommodations to promote learning, development, and motivation.
Three motivational, engagement, or instructional intervention strategies for students you might use in your classroom and how/why they are effective. At least one strategy should be focused on teaching students with mild to moderate disabilities how to adapt to different environments and evaluate their responses.
How you will communicate with families on classroom updates, make-up work, absences, etc. (i.e., classroom website, parent emails, weekly updates).
Minimum of 2-3 strategies for families to help their student be successful at school and in your classroom.
