Project Scenario
A large multi-national corporation is implementing a new mission-critical supply chain management system across the entire organization.
The initiative directly involves the global procurement department and touches virtually all its functional areas.
The project sponsor is the company's chief procurement officer. The implementation team includes
• an internal software development team,
• an internal quality assurance team, and
• two separate and independent software vendors,
The internal teams are both collocated in the corporation's world headquarters. Most of the team members from each of the vendors work primarily out of each vendor's offices, and both of those offices are in different cities than the client company's headquarters. Some of the vendors' staff have been assigned to work four days a week at the world headquarters, or to travel as needed to other satellite offices of the corporation.
The corporation has regional headquarters on four different continents. Representatives from the sourcing departments at those regional headquarters will be working with the project team to identify requirements and help evaluate the system.
The project steering committee includes the project sponsor, the chief information officer and senior managers from the global procurement office based in corporate headquarters and senior procurement staff from each of the regional headquarters.
The project sponsor has imposed a fixed deadline date for the project.
Question
Each student will select three (3) concerns about project communication for the project described above which you feel are the most important to deal with, and write a one to two-page paper (double-spaced) describing these concerns, why you found them worthy to write about and how you see the tools and techniques your team selected as alleviating the concerns.
You may also select a key communication or channel to focus on as a concern. Feel free to draw upon your own experiences working on projects or conduct independent research as needed in support of your arguments
My choose:
Three concerns: Time difference, technology familiarly, and language/culture
Key channel: larger groups of stateholders
