Assignment: I need help with this discussion post.

The medical field is no longer restricted by the use of paper medical records. Everything is now digital. This new platform has paved the way for patients to be able to have better access to their medical information and lessens the stress of medical practices having to keep up with stacks of paper daily. Imagine if one of your parents had a recent visit to the doctor, and you wanted a copy of the clinic notes. There is a signed medical release form in the chart giving permission to release medical information. However, the section to list specific family members that can receive the information was left blank, and the office staff advises that you would not be able to obtain a copy of the clinic note due to that reason.

For your initial post, explain how you feel about being denied access to your parents' medical information. As the son or daughter (main caretaker), do you feel you should automatically have access? Why or why not? You are required to submit original content.

In your reply posts, explain whether the parent can just give a verbal statement to the medical practice to release their records to their child. Would this be acceptable for HIPAA purposes? Why or why not? In your response post to classmates, provide feedback to your peers stating if you agree or disagree with their statements. Do not respond with "I agree, or I disagree," but explain why you agree or disagree.
