Problem

How would you respond to this discussion answer from a class mate: My personal ethical perspective is distinguishing ethical principles that occur during daily life rather than in a professional setting? The way a personal ethical perspective connects with professional ethics in psychology is by the psychologist accepting adequate responsibility for their own behavior in assisting to assist in keeping the individuals they help from a situation that could lead them to harm. My personal ethical standards align with my inspirational standards, which I try to live by daily and enforceable standards that if violated, there will be repercussions that affect societal standards (Fisher, 2017). For example, breaking the law, or getting a speeding ticket.

When making ethical decisions as a professional, strictly adhering to one's personal views and values can lead to some of those views being considered unethical in professional practice. This doesn't mean a professional who practices based on their own ethical view will ultimately fail to have a successful career as a psychologist. However, this could create a conflict in making professionally ethical decisions when helping others.
