Her son, Tony, has brought her into the hospital for a rash on her body. The doctor has confirmed that the rash is a result of an allergic reaction to Mrs. Smith's new medications. The doctor changes the medication and provides her with a plan of care for the rash. The doctor also states that if she has another reaction to the new medication, then she needs to come back to the hospital. Mrs. Smith is now afraid to take any new medications, because of her concerns about another allergic reaction. Tony begins to assure his mother that he will be with her while she's on the new medications. Tony promises that he will try his best to help his mother take her new medications Based on the information about Mrs. Smith, how would you address her concerns? Scenario 3: Concerned Parent of a Patient Benjamin is a 4-month-old male patient in the pediatric unit at the children's hospital. He has been recovering from a respiratory virus for a week and is receiving breathing treatments every four hours from the respiratory therapist. He is currently on oxygen. While doing his regular vital sign check at 12:00 pm, you notice that he is having more difficulty breathing compared to yesterday. You check his oxygen tubing and it is flowing properly. His mother is in the room and says that he has been sleeping most of the day. She also says that he missed his last breathing treatment due to a change in his feeding schedule. She is beginning to pace the room with concern and asks you if you can do the breathing treatment. You know that the respiratory therapist has to do breathing treatments. How would you respond to Benjamin's mother?
