1. It is flu shot season. As a medical-surgical nurse, you are once again going to hear all the usual excuses in the community about why people should not or are not getting the flu shot. Write what you would submit as a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to convince people to get their flu shot. Be mindful of your professional presence.
2. It is flu season and your hospital has launched a flu shot campaign on Facebook. The anti-flu-shot people are responding. What response would you write to defend your position on the issue and what response would you write to defend their view. This is a two-part scenario. How would you respond in favor and against flu shots? Lastly, would you post your response? Why or why not? Name the pros and cons of responding in a public forum.
3. You are the director of public relations. What communication technologies could you use to spread the word about your flu shot clinics, keeping in mind the rules of social media, the reputation of your hospital, and the public's freedom to respond to your post?
4. As the manager of an inpatient care unit, you are responsible for monitoring your unit employees' flu shot administration rates. It is close to October 1, the deadline set by the hospital's administration for gathering these data. One of your employees sends you an inflammatory email about how he is not going to comply and is not going to be fired or suspended due to his personal decision. What would you do? What sources of support or levels of administration would you go to for assistance? What level of technology, if any, would you use in responding to this individual?
