Case Study: Rosemary Jackson
You are employed as a PCW at the "We Care Agency". You receive an early morning call to attend a morning shift at Bell Haven Aged Care Facility. When you arrive at Bell Haven you attend the morning handover and receive instructions on the residents you will be providing care to for the shift.
You then familiarise yourself with these by reading their care plans.
The first resident you are going to attend to this morning it Rosemary Jackson. Read her care plan below and answer the following questions.
At 0715 you attend to Rosemary Jackson, the first resident you need to assist with in getting dressed and ready for breakfast.
Bell Haven Aged Care Facility caters for an array of clients, with different religious backgrounds, and you have noticed there is a Chapel on the premises.
This morning, it was explained at handover that all residents are to be offered the opportunity to attend the independent church services. The service will be held this morning at 10:00am.
You start to tell Rosemary about the Church service, yet she interrupts and laughs, saying she's not interested as she isn't religious.

You read in Rosemary's care plan that she needs a 4WF and you observe that she does not have one in her room. You go to the store room and take a spare 3WF for Rosemary to use until hers can be located.
As you are walking Rosemary from breakfast, the front wheel on the 3WF becomes loose, causing her to fall. Your immediate reaction is to try to catch Rosemary from falling and in doing so you feel a twinge in your back.
Q2. What should have been done to prevent this incident from occurring?
Q3. What reporting procedures or documentation must be completed?

Q4. What is an aid or a strategy that could be trialed?
Q5. Provide two reasons why it is important that Rosemary and the supervisor were involved in finding a solution to this issue?
