Assignment - Advertising Question

Objective - Provide a written essay answering three questions in relation to the T-Mobile case-study article.

This assignment asks you to formulate your opinion by answering the questions, while connecting your answers to project management principles.

Case study article - This assignment focuses on the following 10-page article: T-Mobile Gets Shared

(Source: Loveworks, by Brian Sheehan, Powerhouse Books, Brooklyn NY)

Note that this assignment ONLY pertains to the first 4 pages of the article, covering the T- Mobile Dance activation.

Read the article before answering the questions for this assignment.

Questions - Consider the T-Mobile Dance activation as outlined in the first 4 pages of the article 'T-Mobile Gets Shared'. Please answer the following three questions in relation to the article:

1. T-Mobile Dance required careful preparation and project management leading up to and during the filming of the flash-mob activity at London's Liverpool Street Station. Everything worked out for Saatchi & Saatchi and T-Mobile. However, in retrospect, many things could have gone wrong.

Consider the following hypothetical situation: 4 weeks before the planned activation, Saatchi & Saatchi learns that Liverpool Street Station would be closing on the exact date Saatchi would film their flash-mob dance routine. This is a massive external change to the project.

As the Project Manager, how would you manage overcoming this set-back, knowing that the delivery deadline of the project can't change? What actions would you take? How will this impact your project plan, budget and resource allocation?

2. As the Project Manager, you are responsible for the management of information streams during the project. These involve your colleagues, the client, and third party providers, including the hundreds of dancers that would perform the flash-mob. How would you organize the flow of information during the project to ensure the flash-mob activation would stay a secret for the public until the day of the activation at Liverpool Street Station? Who would be responsible for providing and approving what type of information?

3. T-mobile was a brave client for approving Saatchi's Dance idea. There was no guarantee for success: the idea was so novel, that no-one could predict how the public would react. Would they join in the dance? Would they capture the flash-mob on their mobile phones? Would the share with friends?

Considering the T-mobile Dance case study, what in your opinion would be the main factors that the client would judge the project's success on?
