Case Study: A restaurant is planning to introduce a new plant-based burger that imitates the taste of beef. But first, they want to perform market research to understand if and who would buy this product. The restaurant wants to see if there is a target market; if so who are they and what is their reasoning to buy (or not buy) the product.

The manager of the restaurant knows that the sale of this product would depend on many factors including demographic variables of the prospective customers, their age, culture, lifestyle, religion, gender, past purchase habits, competition, prices of the product, and whatnot. These are some examples but the list goes on. Collecting all the possible quantitative data and qualitative data to understand whom we can target our new product to is the next objective.

Questions: Given this scenario, you are required to answer the following questions. Your answers should be in the context of this restaurant and the product it is selling.

  1. Indicate two data collection methods that you would use. Also, explain why you are choosing them (over several other available techniques). Also, how would you implement these data collection methods in the given context of this restaurant?
  2. What kind of sampling technique/s would you use and why? While answering this question, make sure the sampling technique you chose here, goes well with the data collection method chosen in Question 1 - some sampling techniques may not fit well with certain data collection methods.
  3. Of the data that you are collecting, which data are qualitative (Nominal and Ordinal) and which data are quantitative (Interval and Ratio)? Put together the actual questions you will be asking during your data collections in the category of Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, and Ratio. List at least 14 questions (in total) that you will ask - make sure you put them in the four categories of qualitative and quantitative data (not all categories need to have data/questions).While answering this question, you should keep in mind what you answered in Question 1 - because what type of data you are collecting would depend largely on the data collection methods mentioned in Question 1.
  4. What kind of visualization (bar chart, pie chart, frequency histogram, stem, and leaf, etc.) would you use to describe the data you are collecting, and whY? While answering this question, keep in mind what you answered in Question 3 because the type of visualization you use would depend on what type of questions/data you collected in Question 3. Depending on the type of questions you asked and the data you collected, you may have to use more than one visualization technique.
