Global Study Essay (Kim)
Read the following prompt and answer number 1 and 2.
Again, do TWO (in total of six double-spaced typed pages, about three pages each question):
1) Describe at least three key organizations or institutions that either Noam Chomsky or Manfred Steger claim are integral to economic globalization. How does each of these entities impact global processes in either the relatively affluent "advanced" world or the poorer countries of the so-called "Third World"? Who benefits and who loses from the way this all "works"?
2) How would you define "globalization"? Is it "new"? What are its various "dimensions"? Is it a "problem"? Or does it have beneficial aspects?
3) What sorts of global "crisises" to we face? Pick one that you think is particularly interesting and/or vitally important and discuss this in some detail. Why are things bad enough to be called a crisis? Explain. What can be done to "solve" the problem you picked?
4) Describe "neo-liberalism." How does this relate to globalization? How might it be linked to recent changes in the United States? Discuss how have various politicians, including Presidents George W. Bush and Barack H. Obama, developed policies favoring or opposing "neo-liberalism."
5) Steger talks of three broad "ideologies of globalization." Discuss these and provide contemporary examples of politicians and other "players on the world stage" who fit into different "globalisms." "Terrorism" is a threat that gets a lot of attention today. How does "terrorism" fit into this classification and/or into the wider discussion of "globalization
