Monica is an incredibly bright, 30-year-old, out-of-work research assistant who started graduate school for philosophy but never completed it. She recently joined a personal growth therapy group to see if she could get her life back in the direction she wants. She is gregarious and outgoing, and everyone seems to consider her a friend. Monica is witty and quick with a joke, but often gets lost in intellectual discourse that is sometimes difficult for the group members to follow. However, the other group members have come to rely on Monica to break uncomfortable silences in the group. Now that they're in the transition stage, when questioned about her personal life, Monica quickly changes the subject or launches into a theoretical monologue. You sense that there is growing frustration in the group with this member.
