Part 1
You are the human resource manager for Kingfisher Garden Centre. Familiarise yourself with the business by referring to all the documents on your Moodle platform relating to Kingfisher.
Here you will find everything you need to know about Kingfisher's products and services, their background, values, vision and mission. Use this information to document an employee relations strategy consistent with organisational objectives.
The existing diversity policy on the Kingfisher available on your Moodle platform.
A template has already been created for you. Go to your Moodle platform/ Assessment tab and open Employee relations strategy template. Document a simple policy statement or outline a simple procedure for each section of the employee relations strategy.
Make sure the strategies you employ comply with legislative and regulatory requirements and are consistent with team, individual and organisational objectives.

Q2: How would you communicate the employee relations strategy and expectations to Kingfisher employees?
Q3: List four tips for developing consultation methods that encourage group feedback and participation?
Q4: You are concerned about the risk of unfair dismissal. How does your employee relations strategy address this risk? Comment on any improvements you would make.
Q5: An employee is underperforming. What alternatives could you consider before terminating their employment?
Q6: Does your strategy take into account specialist assistance or help that might be required for employees? If not, outline the type of assistance that might be required in different circumstances.

• Participate in a role-play scenario, by selecting 2 out of the 4 mentioned role plays below.
• Your assessor may act as the second party in the role-play or assign another learner to participate in the role- play with you.
• Your role play maybe record under permission granted and view at a later date, by your assessor.
Assessment Instructions

Here you will find everything you need to know about Kingfisher's products and services, their background, values, vision and mission. As you participate in the role-plays, you may make any reasonable assumptions about the Kingfisher Garden Centre's daily operations.
Key Requirements
Role-play 1: Contracts, rights and obligations
• A new employee has been recruited to work in the Kingfisher Garden Centre café. The employee wants to negotiate the terms and conditions of their employment contract. In particular, they want to talk about their entitlement to annual leave and parental leave.
• The employee wants to take three weeks off this year and wants to know if they can accumulate annual leave with the intention of taking a block of six weeks if and when they decide to start a family.
• Negotiate an agreement with the employee that complies with legislation and the employee's rights and obligations.
• Record your session and submit to your assessor.
Role-play 2: Problem-solving and conflict resolution
• An employee wants to talk to you about a team member that is causing them daily stress. They repeatedly make mistakes and often forget to forward on important telephone messages.
• The employee doesn't know how to approach the situation and is worried that if they say something the team member will become hostile.
• Talk to the employee about the problem they're experiencing.
• Provide information and advice that will help them deal with the situation and develop competence in conflict management.
• Record your session and submit to your assessor.
Role-play 3: Problem-solving and dispute resolution
• An employee applied for an internal promotion within the garden centre but was not awarded the role.
• The employee believes they were discriminated against because they're younger than the other applicants.
• Discuss the matter with the employee.
• Outline the dispute resolution process they can follow, ensuring processes are fair, equitable and consistent with all the awards and legislation.
• Discuss the option for external mediation, conciliation and arbitration where appropriate.
• Record your session and submit to your assessor.
Role-play 4: Diversity
• You are conducting a meeting with the assistant manager. They inform you that sales are increasing rapidly and more staff will be recruited to work in the garden centre over the next couple of months. Their manager has asked them to draft an advertisement for the local paper.
• Provide feedback to the assistant manager about his advertisement. Discuss the value of diversity and any legal issues you identify.
