Cindy's physician decides to artificially rupture her membranes. The fluid is clear and her cervix is now 4 cm/100%/0 station. Cindy has an epidural for pain management. Contractions are every 2 minutes, lasting 60 seconds, moderate intensity. FHR is 140 baseline with moderate variability, and accelerations are present, there then appears to be an abrupt drop in the FHR to 60 bpm in less than 30 seconds occurring during each contraction with a return to baseline in 40 seconds. What type of decelerations are these and what could cause them? why would Cindy be at risk for this and what are 4 interventions for this type of decel?
