Problem: Imagine that you were living in 1961 and heard or watched John F. Kennedy's inaugural address? How would his words make you feel? When Kennedy says, "...ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country?" to what extent is he appealing to his listeners' sense of personal responsibility? To their sense of social responsibility? Think about your own career objectives. Given Kennedy's challenge, how will personal responsibility (the ability to connect choices, actions, and consequences to ethical decision making) and social responsibility (intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities) affect how you engage with the community and with your colleagues?
