Question: How would a diet based on Carbohydrate effect a kickboxers performance on the metabolic level?

My project is to speak on the early rounds(1-4), middle rounds(5-8), and final rounds (9-12) of a kickboxing fight(2min rounds) and the difference a diet based in carbohydrate would make regarding the metabolic responses that come as the fight increases in intensity and duration. How would ingesting carbohydrate be beneficial for a kickboxers metabolism? How would it be negative?

For example would a CHO based diet effect the early rounds where the duration is not long enough to deplete energy storage? I know boxing is a "stop and go" sport so there will be periods of heavy punching along with periods of relaxation.
