Assignment:

1. Open a browser of your choice.

2. Go to the Internet Archive Website, which hosts the Wayback Machine Web application at

3. Look up a few of your favorite websites. The idea here is to look at a website you are currently familiar with. This fun website will then let you look at that exact website at different times in the past. It's like a time machine; luckily you don't have to leave your comfy chair to take a peek. This is fairly simple. You will type in the URL for a website you are interested in at the top of the screen and then click the Browse History button. (After you click Browse History, you will be presented with a graph of sorts showing all of the "snapshots" of the website you are researching. Click on the YEAR you want to look at (I suggest going BACK as far as you can) then click one of the highlighted days below. and VOILA!!! you have time traveled.)

Create a short report (minimum of 3 paragraph -1 for EACH site and 1 conclusion) about what you observed by visiting these sites.

Your report should include:

• Reference to the 2 sites that you researched. You must clearly identify the web address (e.g. www.nau.eduLinks to an external site.) AND make note of how far back the archive went (e.g. back to 1997).
• You should discuss how the World Wide Web has changed based on your observations. This is not a technical assignment relating to web design. This is an opportunity for you to COMPARE a website from today to the same website 20+ years ago. You should include a discussion about the organization of the site (did this change over time), interactivity (are sites more interactive now than in the past), multimedia (did you see videos, pictures), are there links to other sites, how was navigation (ease of use).
• I am sure you can agree, we can learn a lot about where we are going by looking at our past. With that in mind, what did YOU learn by completing this assignment? This should be at least 1 thorough paragraph.
