Case: You have recently been promoted to the team leader of the Emergency Department at XYZ Healthcare. This department has faced many challenges over the last few years, with high turnover and a lack of trust in the department. In a recent culture survey, there were a few things uncovered which is the result of this leadership change. Nearly 60% of the department employees did not trust the team leader and indicated there was a communication issue. The culture survey also revealed the team leader was not accessible and was often not available to staff members to assist with departmental challenges. The team also stated there was some fear when approaching the team leaders; they felt they could not be open and honest with them.
You want to address the importance of communication with the team and how you would improve communication with the team members. You will also address the issue of trust with this team.
