Homework: Addressing Prevalence of Hepatitis a Presentation
Student Health Intervention Proposals
Overview:
In this project you will utilize information and ideas from the course to identify a topic significant in the public health of students at WCU and develop a proposal for an intervention to impact that topic. You will share your proposed intervention with the class through an online discussion.
Instructions:
Step I: Topic identification and problem/etiology description:
A. Use the ACHA Student College Health Assessment (and other sources as needed) survey findings (PDF and link available in CANVAS) to choose a health-related topic that you feel has potential negative impacts on the health of WCU students. It is strongly suggested that you notify the instructor of your topic for any needed feedback.
Step II: Intervention Development & Presentation Preparation:
Create a proposal for an intervention designed to make a positive impact on the health topic you have identified. You will share your proposal through an online presentation (PPT, etc.).
You intervention should include the following:
A. Description of the health problem
Question 1. Describe the magnitude/impact of the problem (% students affected, negative health outcomes, etc.) and why you think this problem needs to be addressed.
B. Description of the health problem etiology
Question 1. Discuss any contributory causes/determinants that contribute to the problem's development and impact. Also discuss the social determinants of health related to this problem.
C. Description of your proposed intervention to impact the problem:
Question 1. Proposed actions & timeline: What would you do and when (ex: information sessions during Freshman orientation)
Question 2. Staff needed: Who would carry out your project actions and what training or expertise would be needed? Would you need to hire new staff or could you utilize staff already available at WCU?
Question 3. Proposed budget: Include an itemized budget outlining staff costs, advertising, supplies, etc.
Question 4. Intervention evaluation methods: How will you know if your intervention has an impact? Will you use surveys, measure changes in behavior, etc.?
Step III: Post your presentation to the Final Exam Project Discussion Board. Be sure that the file or link can be accessed by all students without needing access permissions, etc.
Step IV: Review at least 3 other students' proposals. Make comments on each noting both the strengths of their proposed interventions and areas for improvement.
